Baby, It's Cold Outside

It was 15 degrees Farenheit Sunday morning (that -9 Celsius).  The big fountain in our back yard (AKA the big kitty water dish) was frozen solid, and the humming bird feeder was frozen as well.  We have 2 hummers who decided not to fly south this winter, and they were a big frustrated.  So, out came the hair dryer and we "unfroze" their breakfast!  There was snow on the side of the road on the way to Morro Bay - I think the last time it snowed around here was about 30 years ago.  Crazy weather.

Here are a few photos taken Sunday afternoon in Cambria.

Ouch - try not to buy gasoline in Cambria!

New Project - Fabric Post Card Display Wallhanging

I just finished a wall hanging designed to show off my collection of fabric postcards.  It's designed for 3 different sizes, and the fabric cards just slip into the spaces.  I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Feeling Guilty

I'm feeling kind of guilty because we have been having such nice weather while the rest of the country is suffering through frigid temps and lots of snow! Really. Seriously. I'm sorry!! But here are some more photos from a perfectlly lovely Sunday spent in Cambria.

The oxalis, wild poppies, pride of madera, wild mustard and ice plant are beginning to bloom everywhere along the coast, and the ornamental fruit trees are bursting into bloom as well. The hillsides are a lovely shade of green, and the black cattle really stand out! And we saw about 7 zebras mingling with the cattle near San Simeon. Sparkling blue ocean and temps in the high 60's made for a lovely day along the coast.

There's been quite an uproar around here lately because of those zebras!  They are remnants of the zoo that W.R. Hearst kept at his "Castle" many years ago.  They run wild on the ranch, but recently several of them managed to get out and onto another ranch, where they were shot by the owner who said they were threatening his horses.  Quite a "to-do" in the local papers about it.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the photos, and if you are having winter weather, here's hoping spring-like weather will come your way soon!

The Year of the Rabbit

Thursday marks the start of the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Rabbit.  The rabbit is the 4th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.  The rabbit largely represents tranquility and calm.  Find out more by watching an interesting You Tube video.
