After the Rain

I know some people (you know who you are!) think that it's always sunny in California , but that is so not true! As a matter of fact, we have had a week of rainy, cloudy weather, which was wonderful! The parched countryside soaked in about 4" of beautiful rain this week. I took a few minutes this morning to take some photos of the hillside behind our house. The small creek is usually dry, but this morning there was water gurgurling down it. Most of the trees on the hillside are various kinds of oaks, and when they lose their leaves, the moss really stands out.

But my very favorite tree is the Pacific Madrone, an evergreen tree with a beautiful smooth reddish bark. This time of year the contrast of the reddish bark, silvery moss and leaves is beautiful.

Okay, enough rain already....where's that sunshine!

A New House in the 'hood

How many guys does it take to put up a birdhouse? A bunch, if the birdhouse is very large, very heavy and goes up very high. This crew helped our neighbor "raise" his owl house to it's very lofty perch. It took team work, a lot of yellow rope, and a box of doughnuts, but it was finally up on Monday morning.

Now all we need are the owls!

Thanksgiving Walk Around the 'Hood

Well, another Thanksgiving has come and gone. I used my convection oven (for only the 2nd time in 5 years) to cook our turkey, and it was delicious - only took 2 hrs. 20 minutes to cook the 13 lb. bird. I should really cook more things that way! Anyway, I had some "down time" before the turkey went in, so we took a walk around the neighborhood. Walked down by the "little lake" and circled back to our house along the road. It was a really beautiful fall day!

August Moon

I was working on my computer last night and looked up and saw this lovely moon peeping above the clouds. I thought that the colors reflecting from the setting sun were so beautiful on the clouds. I must admit I did a little "tweaking" in Photoshop to enhance the colors a bit, but Mother Nature did a pretty good job!

Yesterday we had a visit from yet another mama deer with her very thirsty baby. Junior enjoyed a refreshing drink of water from our fountain, unaware that Casey, our cat, was lurking beneath the fountain. When Casey's presence was discovered, the little deer bolted across the yard to the safety of mom's side.
