Stalking the Reclusive Roadrunner

This afternoon, my two photographic assistants and avian aficionados, Casey

and Owen

helped me stalk the wily roadrunner who had wandered into our yard.

In a feeble attempt to escape, he hopped into the nearest oak tree, where he tried to blend into the foliage.

Ha!  He thinks he's camoflaged.

But we sat in the grass and kept him view for quite awhile.

Owen volunteered to make sure he didn't leave the tree.

And that was our afternoon's excitement here at Spanish Lakes!

Sunny

Sunny is a happy kitty now.

His incision is healing nicely.

He doesn't have to take that yucky medicine twice a day.

He doesn't have to wear that silly plastic collar any more that made him bump into walls and chair legs.

No one is grabbing him and stuffing him into that cage and taking him to the vet!

He can quit hiding under Grandma's bed!

And best of all, Casey doesn't hiss at him every time he gets near her, and she let's him snuggle next to her again.  He loves Casey!!

Life is good for Sunny once again!

But it doesn't hurt to keep an eye open just in case!

Right Casey?  Casey?

Sweet Sunny

My sweet beautiful Sunny had to go to the Vet yesterday to have a small growth removed from above his eye.  While he was "under" they cleaned his teeth as well.  He is convalescing at home and not liking us much at this point.  I do believe his modeling career might be over!  (Unless they need a "tough" cat model).

His doctor assures us he will be good as new in a couple of weeks!  The worst thing is giving him his medicine (in an eyedropper) twice a day!

Puddy

I just entered this photo of my sweet kitty, Puddy, in the Pioneer Woman Photography contest on Flickr.  Puddy was a stray that wandered into the elementary school where I taught  back in the early 80's (actually, she was brought in by a 2nd grade student who said "Look what followed me to school!".  She was bedraggled and scared, and I was talked into taking her home "just for the weekend"!  I had 2 Boston Terriers, and didn't think they would stand for a kitten to be added to the family.  When they rushed up to her, she puffed up to about twice her size (still not very big) and hissed and swatted their noses....and the rest is history.  She ruled the house for the next 14 years, outliving both of the dogs.  Once she grew up, we figured she had some Maine Coon in her....she was a large gal, with long hair, and was a very laid back cat.  She was a treasure.  She passed away a month or so before we moved from Colorado to California.  I miss my Puddy cat!

Kitty Gets Komfortable - A Play in One Act

Setting: The windowseat in the breakfast nook.

DAnna, "Isn't it amazing how cats can find the most comfortable spot upon which to rest? WAIT! THOSE ARE MY PLACEMATS! GET YOUR FURRY SELF OFF MY PLACEMATS!" Casey, "I thought someone was speaking to me, but I guess I was wrong."
The End

Epilogue: Cats will sit wherever they wish. The placemats will be washed before using.

Random Pictures Taken on October 4th

This morning when I woke up the moon was just beginning to disappear in the west. This moon is called the Harvest Moon - the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. If you were a farmer, you could work all night harvesting your crops in the light of a harvest moon.

I've been making lots of paper beads ever since a trade I did with Fabric Art Traders. I rather like this cuff style bracelet made out of the page from an old atlas. I have several more in various stages of completion.

Synchronized napping by Casey and Sunny!

Yesterday while I was "surfing" I saw an article that listed 10 coolest small towns. Cayucos, California was among the 10. Cayucos, population 3000, is just north of Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo county right on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway, or Highway 1). It's nestled right along the ocean and has a lovely beach that stretches for several miles. Today after church, we drove into Cayucos and had lunch at the Sea Shanty. The wind was howling, and the wind surfers were having a great time. Great views, and lunch wasn't bad, either.

Casey loves to go outdoors. She really blends in with the ground - good for stalking critters.

FAVORITE CATS

I'm ready for my closeup! Casey takes time to smell the flowers.
Maverick of the Bayside Cafe must be a relative of Casey's
Owen treed by a coyote!
Sunny loves to nap in the sun.
