This is the time of year that the elephant seals come ashore to give birth to their pups. There is a large rookery just north of San Simeon near Piedra Blancas lighthouse right on Highway 1. Here are some photos taken a year ago. The large bulls can weigh as much as 5000 pounds and are very territorial. Check out this web site for more information and photos! www.elephantseal.org/

Visit to Sonoma and San Francisco December 08

We drove up to the Bay Area right before Christmas to see the grandkids. We stayed in Sonoma for 2 nights and then drove over to San Francisco to pick up Grant and Helena for a pre-Christmas lunch.

It rained the day we arrived in Sonoma, and we saw this beautiful rainbow.

Mini-Quilt for Exchange

This is the mini-quilt I made for an exchange. I think I may be going overboard with birds!

Late December 08 Walk along Point Buchon Trail

This is a trail along the coast between Morro Bay and Avila Bay. The area has been closed to the public until recently. It is a beautiful walk along the coast with great views of rocks and crashing surf! Tom, Kristen and I hiked it when she was visiting during Christmas time.
